The West Warwick 12-year-old All Stars had a solid effort in the Rhode Island State Tournament by losing the championship to New England Champion and World Series bound, Washington Park of Providence. A recap of their run in the State Tournament follows:

First Round: West Warwick 20 Elmhurst 2

In the first round of the Rhode Island Cal Ripken 12-Year-Old State Tournament (46/60), West Warwick gave newcomer, Elmhurst, no chance to play six innings by winning 20-2. In fact, West Warwick exploded for 12 runs in the top of the first inning.

The WW 12’s, who sent 15 batters to the plate, received seven walks and hits by Ethan Chasse (three-run single), Calvin Battersby (rbi double), Ty Condon (two-run single), Alex Titelis (rbi double), Justin Perez (two-run home run) and Quinn Kortick.

After a scoreless second inning, West Warwick continued their onslaught with six more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Getting hits were Condon (double), Chasse, Battersby and Jack Boulay. Alex Titelis picked up the victory with 6 strikeouts in three innings of work.

In total, they received contributions from Sean White (two walks and two runs scored), Ty Condon (3/4 two doubles and three runs scored), Alex Titelis (2/3 with one double, one home run and three runs scored), Justin Perez (2/2, one double, one home run and three runs scored), Michael Grenier (one walk and one run scored), Quinn Kortick (1/3, two runs scored), Adam Marsh (three walks and two runs scored), Ethan Chasse (3/4, one double and one run scored), Calvin Battersby (3/3, two doubles and one run scored), Evan Firth (one walk and one run scored) and Jack Boulay (2/3, one run scored).

Winner’s Bracket Semi-Finals: West Warwick 9 Cranston 2

Down 1-0 after three innings, West Warwick came from behind to defeat CLCF, 9-2, and advance to the Winner’s Bracket Final.

In the top of the fourth inning, WW took a 5-1 lead when they scored five runs on one error, one hit batsman and hits by Adam Marsh (rbi double), Calvin Battersby (rbi double), Evan Firth (rbi single), Jack Boulay (rbi double).

In the top of the sixth inning, West Warwick tacked on four more runs to break open the game. Providing hits were Michael Grenier, Calvin Battersby (three-run home run) and Ty Condon (rbi double).

Benefitting from the offensive surge was starting pitcher Justin Perez. In four innings of work, Perez struck out 10 batters and allowed just one run on three hits.

Ty Condon struck out five batters to close out the game in the final two innings.

Offensively, West Warwick received at total of 11 hits from Grenier (1/1), Ty Condon (2/4, one double and one rbi), Quinn Kortick (1/3), Adam Marsh (2/2, two runs scored and one rbi), Calvin Battersby (3/3, one home run, two doubles, two runs scored and four rbi’s), Evan Firth (1/2, one run scored and two rbi’s) and Jack Boulay (1/3, one double, one run scored and one rbi).

Winner’s Bracket Final: Washington Park 10 West Warwick 1

Despite the strong relief pitching of Ty Condon, West Warwick could not overcome a tough start and lost to Washington Park 10-1.

Condon, who struck out two batters, allowed no earned runs in the final two innings of the game. Out of 32 pitches, he threw 20 for strikes.

In addition to that, Condon led WW with two hits and run scored. Adam Marsh (single) and Evan Firth (single) were the only other players to reach safely with a hit.

Loser’s Bracket Final: West Warwick 12 Jamestown 2

Determined to play another game against Washington Park, West Warwick came from behind and won 12-2 in five innings of play.

After two innings, it did not look like West Warwick would make it to the title game as Jamestown took a 2-0 lead with one home run and two singles.

In the bottom of the third inning, West Warwick’s offense woke up and scored three runs on hits by Sean White (lead-off triple), Calvin Battersby (rbi single), Ty Condon and Justin Perez.

West Warwick broke open the game with six runs in the fourth inning. Providing the offensive punch were Ethan Chasse (lead-off home run), Quinn Kortick (double), Ty Condon (rbi double), Alex Titelis (two-run double) and Adam Marsh (rbi triple).

Adam Marsh, who worked the first 3 1/3 innings, picked up the victory by allowing just two earned runs on four hits while striking out 6 batters.

Offensively, nine players recorded hits for West Warwick: Sean White (2/3, one triple and three runs scored), Quinn Kortick (1/3, one double and one run scored), Michael Grenier (1/1, one run scored), Ethan Chasse (1/2, one home run and one run scored), Adam Marsh (1/2, one triple and one rbi), Alex Titelis (1/1, one double, two walks and two rbi’s), Justin Perez (2/3, one run scored and one rbi), Ty Condon (2/3, one double, two runs scored and one rbi) and Calvin Battersby (2/3, two runs scored and two rbi’s).

Rhode Island 12-year-old State Championship: Washington Park 8 West Warwick 1

West Warwick gave World Series bound Washington Park (New England Champion) everything they could handle before losing 8-2 in the State Final.

Inspired by the bewildering pitching of Ty Condon, West Warwick was able to keep the game at 0-0 after three innings.

Washington Park, however, took advantage of three errors and received two timely extra base hits to take a 5-0 lead.

Alex Titelis accounted for West Warwick’s only run of the game when he lined a missile over the centerfield fence for a solo home run.

Ty Condon, who threw 41 strikes out of 58 pitches thrown, picked put the hard-luck loss. In five innings of work, he struck out five and did not walk a batter.

For West Warwick, the only All-Stars to reach safely via a hit were Michael Grenier (single) and Alex Titelis (2/2, one home run).
