Tiverton 1 West Warwick (5-22-2013)

Tigers shutout Wizards, 1-0!

Led by the six-hit pitching of B.K. Kiser, the Tigers of Tiverton shutout the Wizards, 1-0.  The Tigers moved to 9-6 in league play, while the Wizards (9-10 overall) dropped to 6-9. 

Kiser, who worked out of bases loaded jams in the first, second, and seventh innings, struck out five batters.  

Right-hander Kyle Beck struck out four batters and allowed just one earned run on six hits in seven innings of work.

Ryan O'Kelly led the Wizards with two hits (one single and one double). 

Exeter-West Greenwich 4 West Warwick 1 (5-20-2013)

Ricard baffles Wizards, 4-1!

Led by the solid pitching of Ryan Ricard, the Scarlet Knights opportunistically defeated the Wizards, 4-1.

Ricard, who pitched 5 2/3 innings, struck out seven batters and allowed just one earned run on seven hits. 

The Wizards, who outhit the Scarlet Knights, 9-3, left 14 runners on base. 

Offensively, the Wizards were led by Andrew Hebert (2/4, one r.b.i.), Rich McNeil (1/2, two walks), Greg D'Ambrosca (1/4), Rich Grenier Jr. (2/2, two walks), and Matt Masse (2/3, two doubles and one run scored).

Left-hander Rich McNeil struck out two batters and allowed only two earned runs on three hits.  Matt Masse struck out two batters in two innings of scoreless relief. 

West Warwick 8 Mt. St. Charles 6 (Non League Game 5-18-2013) 

Wizards edge Mounties in ALC benefit, 8-6!

Led by an 11-hit attack, the Wizards edged the Mounties of Mt. St. Charles in an ALC benefit game, 8-6. 

Freshman Tom Doran, who pitched in relief, earned his first varsity victory by striking out two batters and allowing just one earned run on five hits in two innings of work.  Freshman Matt Grenier earned the save by striking out one batter in a scoreless seventh inning. 

Senior Drew Doran, who pitched the first four innings, struck out two batters and allowed just two earned runs on six scattered hits. 

Offensively, the Wizards received contributions from Matt Grenier (game winning r.b.i. on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, Kyle Beck (one single, one walk, and two r.b.i.'s), Tyler Boisclair (one single, one walk, and two r.b.i.'s), Rich Grenier (two singles, one walk, and one run scored), Ray Zincone (one single, one double, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.), Greg D'Ambrosca (two singles, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.), Andrew Hebert (one single and one run scored, Jake Woodside (one r.b.i.), and Ryan O'Kelly (one single, one double, one run scored, and one r.b.i.). 

Prout 2 West Warwick 8 innings (League Game 5-18-2013)

Crusaders edge Wizards, 2-1!

In a game that mirrored more of a playoff game than a regular season game, the Crusaders of Prout edged the Wizards, 2-1, in eight innings.

The Wizards received solid pitching from senior Kyle Beck.  Beck, who pitched in the Division II All Star game on May 10th, struck out three batters and gave up only one earned run on four hits. 

Down 1-0 in the top of the second inning, West Warwick tied the game 1-1 when Greg D'Ambrosca singled, moved to third on a double by Ray Zincone, and scored on a fielder's choice by Rich Grenier Jr.

Unfortunately for the Wizards, who left six runners on base over the last four innings, they could not muster a timely hit late in the game. 

Offensively, the Wizards were led Greg D'Ambrosca (3/4, one run scored), Ryan O'Kelly (one triple), Rich McNeil (one single and one walk), Ray Zincone (one double), and Rich Grenier Jr. (one single and one r.b.i.).

West Warwick 13  Rogers 3 (League Game 5-16-2013)

Wizards bounce back with a 13-3 victory over Vikings!

Led by a 12-hit attack, West Warwick (8-7 overall) was able to even their league record at 6-6. 

Offensively, the Wizards received support from Ryan O'Kelly (3/5, two doubles, two runs scored, and three r.b.i.'s), Andrew Hebert (2/3, two runs and two walks), Andrew In (1/1, one run scored), Rich McNeil (two runs scored and a walk), Gregg D'Ambrosca (1/4, one hit batsmen, one run scored), Ray Zincone 2/4, one walk, one run scored, and one r.b.i.), Rich Grenier Jr. (two walks and one r.b.i.), Tyler Boisclair (2/2, one walk, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.), Evan Barrera (1/2, one run scored), and Drew Doran (one run scored). 

The Wizards received solid pitching from senior Matt Masse, who recorded his first win of the year.  Masse, who worked four innings, struck out two batters and allowed just one earned run on two hits.  In addition, freshman Matt Grenier continued his solid relief work for the Wizards by striking out three batters in two innings of work. 

Chariho 11  West Warwick 6 (League Game 5-14-2013)

Division Champion Chargers survive a scare, 11-6!

The Chargers of Chariho, who moved down to Division II after reaching the Division I Regional Finals last year, overcame a tough start by pitching ace Andy Mongillo to defeat the upset-minded Wizards, 11-6.  Essentially, the Wizards made too many mistakes in their loss to the Chargers. 

In the top of the second inning, the Chargers allowed the Wizards to tie the game up at 1-1 after they committed two infield errors on two ground balls by Rich Grenier Jr. and Andrew Hebert.

After the Chargers took a 4-1 lead after three innings, the Wizards took a 6-4 lead when they scored five runs on five hits (Evan Barrera - single, Andrew Hebert - two run double, Ryan O'Kelly - r.b.i. double Rich McNeil - r.b.i. single, and Greg D'Ambrosca - single), two walks (Ray Zincone and Rich Grenier - bases loaded walk), and one hit batsmen (Rich Grenier).

The Chargers, however, came right back to score two unearned runs on a walk, an error, and two singles in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Lefty Rich McNeil gave up only three earned runs on five hits and five walks through four innings of work against the potent Charger offense.

Freshman Matt Grenier, who picked up the loss, gave up only two earned runs on three hits in two innings of work.

West Warwick 6 Westerly 3 (League Game 5-13-2013)

Wizards even season series with Bulldogs!

After letting an opportunity slip away against the Bulldogs of Westerly one week ago, the Wizards held onto a 6-3 league victory.  The win evened the Wizards record at 5-5.

The Wizards, who only mustered six hits in the game, made them count.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, West Warwick scored two runs with two outs when Andrew Hebert singled and scored on Ryan O’Kelly’s triple to right-center.  Matt Masse, then, doubled down the left field line to score O’Kelly.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, West Warwick took a 5-1 lead with three runs on two hits, three walks, and one error.  Ray Zincone, who singled and stole a base, scored when Rich Grenier Jr. lined a single to right field.  After Grenier advanced to second base on a wild pitch, Andrew In replaced him as a pinch runner.  One out later, In and Evan Barrera (walk) successfully stole second and third base.   In scored on Andrew Hebert’s fielder’s choice and Barrera scored on an error.

Wizard starting pitcher Kyle Beck, who had only pitched one inning last week, improved to 4-1 in league play.  Beck struck out three batters and allowed only three earned runs on six hits.  Matt Masse earned a save by pitching two scoreless innings.

West Warwick 10 EWG 6 (League Game 5-7-2013)

Wizards come from behind to defeat Scarlet Knights, 10-6!

Sparked by the relief pitching of freshman Matt Grenier and an eleven hit attack, the Wizards won their fourth league game of the year, 10-6, over the Scarlet Knights of Exeter-West Greenwich.

Grenier, who came into the game with the Wizards down 6-1, struck out three batters and no-hit the Scarlet Knights in 3 1/3 innings of work.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, West Warwick started their comeback when Gregg D’Ambrosca doubled and scored two outs later on a Tyler Boisclair double down the right field line.

After two Scarlet Knights struck out and one popped out in the top of the fifth inning, the Wizards rallied for five runs on four hits, two errors, and two walks to take a 7-6 lead.  Providing the key hits in the inning were Andrew Hebert (lead-off double), Ryan O’Kelly (r.b.i. double), Ray Zincone (triple), and Rich Grenier Jr. (r.b.i. single). 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, West Warwick scored three more runs on one hit (Evan Barrera) and a perfectly executed suicide squeeze by Ray Zincone.

Offensively, the Wizards received multiple hits from Ryan O’Kelly (2/3, one double, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.) and Gregg D’Ambrosca (2/4, two doubles, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.). 

Westerly 7 West Warwick 6 (League Game 5-6-2013)

Bulldogs edge Wizards, 7-6!

Led by the timely hitting of Kyle Gencarelli (2/3, one run scored, and two r.b.i.’s) and Anthony Garro (3/4, one run scored, and two r.b.i.’s), the Bulldogs came from behind twice to edge the Wizards, 7-6.

Rich McNeil, who was back by solid play in the outfield (8 putouts in the first four innings), struck out one batter, walked two batters, and allowed only three hits in four innings of work. 

The Wizards took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Matt Masse (walk) scored on hits by Gregg D’Ambrosca (r.b.i. single) and Ray Zincone (r.b.i. double).

The Bulldogs came right back by scoring three runs on four hits to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Wizards took a 4-3 lead when Rich Grenier Jr. (walk) scored with two outs when Andrew Hebert reached on an error.  Hebert, then, scored when Ryan O’Kelly reached on an error. 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, however, the Bulldogs scored four runs on three walks, two errant throws, and two singles to pull ahead, 7-4.

In the top of the seventh inning, Gregg D’Ambrosca walked, advanced to third base on back to back groundouts, and scored on Tyler Boisclair’s r.b.i. double to right field.  Drew Doran followed with an r.b.i. double to left field to score Boisclair.  The Wizards rally fell short when reliever Justin Algiere induced a groundout to second base to end the game.

Offensively, the Wizards received another solid game from Gregg D’Ambrosca (2/3, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.).

Defensively, the Wizards received the play of the game from centerfielder Ryan O’Kelly.  With two runners on two outs in the top of the third inning, O’Kelly made a diving catch to rob Cam Newell of an extra-base hit. 

Mt. Hope 6 West Warwick 2 (League Game (5-2-2013)

Huskies gain seasonal split with Wizards!

Led by the pitching of Mike DeCosta and the solid defense of two freshman (shortstop Devin Santerre and third baseman Joshua Lee), the Huskies of Mt. Hope earned a seasonal split with the Wizards by defeating them 6-2. 

DeCosta, who struck out two batters, gave up only two earned runs on six hits and three walks. 

After patiently taking 138 pitches in an 18-5 victory over Rogers one day earlier, the Wizards, who saw only 79 pitches from DeCosta hit into two double plays and grounded out a season high 13 times.

After a thirty minute delay in the top of the second inning due to an injury to a Mt. Hope batter, the Huskies scored four unearned runs on two hits and three errors.   

The Wizards scored two runs in the bottom of second inning when Evan Barrera singled home Rich Grenier Jr. (walk) and Tyler Boisclair (walk). 

Matt Masse, who worked six innings for the Wizards, struck out two batters and allowed only two earned runs on seven singles.  Kyle Beck struck out the side in the seventh inning. 

Offensively, the Wizards were led by Evan Barrera who had two singles and two r.b.i.’s. 

West Warwick 18 Rogers 5 (League Game 5-1-2013)

Wizards defeat Vikings, 18-5!

Supported by a 16-hit attack, Kyle Beck cruised to his third league win of the year over Rogers, 18-5.

Beck, who improved his record to 3-1 on the year, struck out nine batters and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.  Junior Anthony Indeglia retired three batters in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the game for the Wizards.

Tied at 1-1 in the top of the second inning, the Wizards took a 3-1 lead when Matt Masse hit a two-out, two-strike pitch over the third baseman’s head to score Evan Barrera (single) and Ryan O’Kelly (fielder’s choice). 

In the top of the third inning, West Warwick built a 9-1 lead when they scored six runs on hits by Ray Zincone, Rich Grenier Jr. (r.b.i. single), Tyler Boisclair, Andrew Hebert (two-run double), Ryan O’Kelly, and Rich McNeil Jr. (r.b.i. double). 

After the Vikings rallied back with three runs in the inning, the Wizards scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning before breaking the game open in the top of the sixth inning with seven runs on six hits. 

Rich Grenier Jr. doubled to left field to lead-off the inning.  Tom Doran, who was pinch-running Grenier, then scored when Tyler Boisclair reached on an error.  After Evan Barrera singled, Andrew Hebert hit a two-run single over a drawn-in infield for a 14-5 lead.  After the next two batters were retired, the Wizards continue their offensive assault with key hits from Rich McNeil Jr., Gregg D’Ambrosca (r.b.i. double), and Rich Grenier Jr. (r.b.i. single), who recorded his second hit of the inning. 

Offensively, the Wizards, who received a hit from every starter, were led by Andrew Hebert (3/3, two runs scored, and five r.b.i.’s), Evan Barrera (2/4, four runs scored), Tyler Boisclair (one single and two runs scored), Rich Grenier Jr. (3/5, one run scored and three r.b.i.’s), Ray Zincone (one single and two runs scored), Gregg D’Ambrosca (one double, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.), Rich McNeil Jr. (2/4, one double, and three r.b.i.’s), Matt Masse (one single and two r.b.i.’s), and Ryan O’Kelly (2/4, three runs scored, and one r.b.i.).

West Warwick 6 Ponaganset 0 (Non-League Game 4-29-2013)

McNeil blanks Ponaganset, 6-0!

Led by solid pitching of Rich McNeil Jr., the Wizards won their fourth game of the year over Ponaganset, 6-0. 

The junior lefty struck out three, walked three, and limited the Chieftains (7-4 overall) to three hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.  Freshmen Tom Doran and Matthew Grenier closed the game by the last five batters of the game. 

Offensively, the Wizards, who played all 17 players, received hits from Ryan O’Kelly (one double, one triple, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.), Rich McNeil Jr. (two singles and one r.b.i.), Gregg D’Ambrosca (one single), Ray Zincone (one triple and one run scored), Tyler Boisclair (one single, one run scored, and one r.b.i.), Kyle Beck (two singles), Andrew In (one double and one run scored), Andrew Hebert (one single), Evan Barrera (one single and one run scored), and Matthew Grenier (one single and two r.b.i.’s).

Central 12 West Warwick 6 (Non-League Game 4-27-2013)

Luna leads Knights past Wizards, 12-6!

Led by the hitting of Wali Luna (3/4, one double, and three r.b.i.'s) and Nelson Lozada (two run home run), the Knights defeated the Wizards in a non-league contest, 12-6.

Offensively, the Wizards, who played all 17 players, received contributions from  Tom Doran (r.b.i. double), Jake Woodside (one single and one run scored), Andrew Hebert (one single), Mike Pellerin (one run scored), Tyler Boisclair (r.b.i. single), Rich Grenier Jr. (one double and run scored), Greg D'Ambrosca (one single, one run scored, and one r.b.i.), and Ryan O'Kelly (one double and one run scored). 

Tiverton 10 West Warwick 6 (League Game 4-26-2013)

Tigers outlast Wizards, 10-6!

Led by the relief pitching of senior B.K. Kiser, Tiverton outlasted West Warwick, 10-6.  Kiser allowed just three hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.

In the top of the second inning, the Wizards opportunistically tied the game 1-1 when Greg D'Ambrosca (single) scored on "pickle-play" after Rich Grenier jr. drew an errant throw to second base.

Trailing 6-1 in the top of the third inning, West Warwick tied the game with five runs on four hits and two walks.  With one out, Ryan O'Kelly reached on single and moved to second base when Drew Doran walked.  Rich McNeil jr., then, doubled to left-center, scoring O'Kelly.  After Greg D'Ambrosca walked to load the bases, Ray Zincone (r.b.i. single) and Rich Grenier (two-run single) provided the Wizards with two timely hits.  Zincone scored the final run of the inning on Tyler Boisclair's groundout to third.  

Tied at 6-6, the Tigers scored two earned runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure their fourth league win of the year.

The Wizards received solid relief pitching from Kyle Beck, who struck out three batters and allowed just two hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Offensively, the Wizards received hits from Ryan O'Kelly (2/3, one run scored), Rich McNeil (1/3, one double, one run scored, and one r.b.i.), Greg D'Ambrosca (1/3, two runs scored), Ray Zincone (2/4, one run scored, and one r.b.i.), and Rich Grenier Jr. (1/4, two r.b.i.'s).

West Warwick 8 Prout 6 (League Game 4-22-13)

Wizards hold on to defeat Crusaders, 8-6!

After being shutout in back to back games over vacation week, West Warwick bounced back with an impressive 8-6 victory over six-time league champion Prout. The Wizards, who are 2-2 in league play, improved their seasonal record to 3-2. 

In the bottom of the second inning, West Warwick took a 1-0 lead when Ray Zincone reached on an infield hit, moved to second on an errant pickoff attempt, advanced to third on Rich Grenier's groundout to first, and scored on Tyler Boisclair's groundout to second base. 

In the bottom of the third inning, the Wizards took a 5-1 lead on hits by Rich McNeil Jr. (r.b.i. single), Gregg D'Ambrosca (r.b.i. double), Rich Grenier Jr. (r.b.i. single), and a sacrifice fly by Ray Zincone.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Crusaders cut the Wizards lead to 5-4 when they scored three runs on one hit, two walks, and three errors. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, West Warwick broke the game open when Tyler Boisclair hit a two run double for a 7-4 lead.  One out later, Kyle Beck hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Rich Grenier Jr. for an 8-4 lead. 

Beck, who stranded two runners in scoring position in the fifth inning, struck out the side in the sixth inning to propel the Wizards to their second league victory.

Offensively, the Wizards received contributions from Ryan O'Kelly (two walks and one run scored), Matt Masse (one single and one run scored), Rich McNeil Jr. (one single, one runs scored, and one r.b.i.), Gregg d'Ambrosca (one double, two walks, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.), Ray Zincone (one single, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.), Rich Grenier Jr. (two singles, one run scored, and one r.b.i.), Tyler Boisclair (one double and three r.b.i.'s), and Kyle Beck (one r.b.i.). 

Defensively, the Wizards received a solid effort from second baseman Matt Masse, who had five assists and two putouts.

Chariho 10 West Warwick 0 (League Game 4-18-13)

Chargers blank Wizards, 10-0!

After 18 years of playing Division I baseball, the Chargers of Chariho moved down to Division II this season.  Three games into their II-South season, the Chargers are a perfect 3-0 after defeating the Wizards of West Warwick, 10-0.  

Chariho, who returns several players on a team that defeated North Kingstown twice in the Division I playoffs last spring, received a solid effort from senior Andy Mongillo.  Mongillo struck out seven batters and allowed just one hit in five innings of work.

Offensively, the Chargers received key contributions from senior Jim Paquette (3/3, two doubles, two runs scored, and two r.b.i.'s), senior Dave Champlin (2/4, one double, one run scored, and two r.b.i.'s), junior Alex Teft (2/3, two runs scored, and two r.b.i.'s), and junior Kyle Kirby (one r.b.i. triple). 

Narragansett 10 West Warwick 0 (League Game 4-16-13)

McKanna masters Wizards, 10-0!

Led by the one hit pitching of Zach McKanna, the Mariners of Narragansett won their first league game of the year, 10-0 over the Wizards.

The senior righty, who pitched out of jams in the fourth and fifth inning, struck out nine and walked four.

The Wizards, who had four players take a called third strike, had their best chance to score in the fourth inning.

Down 5-0 with two outs, Ryan O’Kelly reached on an infield single.  Rich McNeil and Gregg D’Ambrosca followed with back to back walks loading the bases for Rich Grenier Jr.  Unfortunately for the Wizards, Grenier line-drive hit was caught by shortstop Art Kershaw to end the inning. 

Offensively, the Mariners, who received seven of their eleven hits from their last four batters, was led by Brad West (3/3, one double, two runs scored, and three r.b.i.’s), Nick Schone (2/3, two runs scored, and one r.b.i.), and Justin Cronin (two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning).

West Warwick 12 Mt. Hope 0 (League Opener 4-9-13)

Beck baffles Huskies in league opener!

Led by a 14-hit attack and the no-hit pitching of Kyle Beck, West Warwick opened their 2013 league season with a 12-0 victory in five innings.

Beck, who received solid outfield play from Rich McNeil and Andrew Hebert in the first inning, struck out seven batters and walked only one in five innings of work.  After walking a batter in the third inning, Beck retired eight batters in a row, five via the strikeout.

In the top of the second inning, Beck was provided with the only run he would need in the game when Greg D’Ambrosca reached on an infield hit and scored when Senior Rich Grenier Jr. lined an r.b.i. hit to the right-center gap. 

In the top of the third inning, West Warwick scored four more runs on four hits (Ray Zincone, Rich McNeil Jr., Greg D’Ambrosca, and Tyler Boisclair) and an error.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Wizards broke the game open with six runs on hits from Drew Doran (lead-off single), Ray Zincone (double), Rich McNeil Jr. (two-run single), Greg D’Ambrosca (two-run single), Rich Grenier (single), Tyler Boisclair (r.b.i. single), and Andrew Hebert (r.b.i. single). 

Offensively, the Wizards received multiple hit games from Rich McNeil (3/4, two runs scored, and three r.b.i.’s), Gregg D’Ambrosca (3/4, three runs scored, and four r.b.i.’s), Rich Grenier Jr. (2/4, one run scored, and two r.b.i.’s), Tyler Boisclair (2/3, two r.b.i.’s), and Ray Zincone (2/4, one double, and two runs scored). 

West Warwick 9 Classical 0 (Injury Fund Game 4-6-13)

Wizards blank Purple, 9-0!

The West Warwick Wizards baseball team opened their 2013 season with a 9-0 victory over Classical in an Injury Fund match-up.

West Warwick received solid pitching from a quartet of pitches, who combined on a six-hitter.  Senior Matt Masse earned the victory by striking out two batters and allowing just four hits in three innings of work.  Senior Drew Doran pitched two innings of middle relief, striking out three batters and allowing just one hit.  Junior Anthony Indeglia and Freshman Matthew Grenier finished the game by pitching scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh. 

In the bottom of the first inning, West Warwick took a 3-0 lead with three runs on three hits.  Ray Zincone lead-off with a single and Ryan O’Kelly followed with a walk.  Zincone, then, scored when Rich McNeil Jr. blooped  a single to left field.  O’Kelly, who was running on the pitch, reached third base on the throw home and later scored on Gregg D’Ambrosca’s groundout to short.  Rich Grenier Jr. followed with an r.b.i. single to right-center to score McNeil.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, West Warwick took advantage of three walks (D’Ambrosca, Grenier Jr., and Masse) and scored four runs on single by Tyler Boisclair and Andrew Hebert.
