Cranston, R.I. 5 Hartford,Vermont 4

Trailing 4-0 after four innings, the ten year olds from Cranston saw their 2008 All Star season fading away before a five run fifth inning outburst paved the way to a 5-4 come from behind victory over Hartford, Vermont.

In the bottom of the first inning, Hartford, who was shut out 16-0 in their opener to New Canaan, Connecticut, jumped on the scoreboard with four runs on two errors and hits from Connor Brooks and Jacob Perkins.

With both pitchers from Hartford (Connor Brooks) and Cranston (David Cushman) settling into a groove, both offenses were held in check until the fifth inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, Matt O'Rourke singled to lead off the inning.  After advancing to second on passed ball, he scored when Gersham Rainone reached on an on three base error.  Rainone, then, scored on Andrew Ciaciarelli's sacrifice fly.     With two out, Cranston scored three more runs on a walk (Matt Pion) and two singles (Matt Sweeney and Christian Martinelli).

Picking up the complete game victory for Cranston was David Cushman.  After a rocky first inning, Cushman, who struck out ten batters, allowed only one hit the remainder of the game.
